General F.A.Q
Funny you should ask? There are otters at Otter Bay, mostly seen on the decks of the marina or out on a paddleboard or kayak. Advise children and dogs to steer clear if you see one. You may see the resident seal , whales may swim by or see seals on seal rock. Did you know you could paddle to the beach across the way or over to Roesland National for a picnic or explore the point and museum. Go on a hike around Roe Lake.
No, the Otter Bay Marina Property is a separate business but we can use the adult pool, washrooms and cafe. Please observe the rules set by the marina while using any marina facilities. The fire pits are for Marina guests.
Please conserve water at all times, as we rely on well water and we have a limited supply.
Cottages operate on a septic system, so please place only biodegradable waste into the toilet (no sanitary products or chlorine bleach products).
No, but it is a magical place to quietly paddle or canoe and see more otters. There is a dock for swimming at the far side.
Brown-outs and power outages are common mostly during the winter months or during high winds on Pender Islands. During a brown-out it is likely lower voltage lighting will remain on; however, appliances, computers etc. may not operate. During a power outage please check that the oven or stovetop elements are not left on inadvertently. If there is a power outage please do not call 911. BC Hydro Services information can be reached at 1-888-769-3766 or if you have mobile data on your phone, you can look up the BC Hydro Outage map which includes the details and status of the power outage.
In case of a medical emergency, dial 911. For after hour cottage or property emergencies please call our Operations Manager David at (250) 539-4080. There is ambulance, fire and police on Pender Island. If needed, there is a medical helijet and a medical boat that are accessed based on an evaluation from paramedics.
